BEHOLDER

her eyes
saw exhaustion
late nights
bags and dark circles
his eyes
saw beauty
intelligence
depth and mischief

you made me
look so pretty
she exclaimed
as she studied the photo
amazed and awed

I did nothing
of the sort
he replied
that part
is all you

April is National Poetry Month and to celebrate – inspired by that badass word warrior Jason Reynolds and my writing promptress Jena Schwartz – I’m going to post a poem every day. They won’t be perfect, they never are, but they’ll be here, every day of April. I hope you stop by and enjoy the words and maybe even feel moved to share some of your own.

  1. Wonderful poem, Madhuri……you observe each person so well, him warn and weary, her—unable to be or unsure of her beauty—–then a truly romantic ending (to, what I take to be just the briefest of encounters)……fine fine writing…..
